Welcome to Clackers Clinic Finds - where we repair and offer interesting vintage machines and items that still have plenty of life left in them. Save this page to get updates whenever we have a new machine. You never know what we'll be selling next because neither do we!
Alongside our typewriter repair work we often encounter charming old machines from bygone eras - machines that can be repaired using similar techniques and the same tools we use to fix typewriters. Here you will find machines we have brought back to life ready to be a part of yours. Enjoy!
At 64 this Kenwood Chef still turns heads - and batter.
This is a Kenwood Chef A701A, serial A 1656866, built to run on 200–240V, 450W. It is one of the most collectable food mixers Kenwood ever made, and this one has just come out of a typewriter repairman's workshop rather than a kitchen — which is why it now works better than it has in years.
We opened the machine up, cleared out decades of old grease and flour-caked paste from the gear housing, and re-greased the toothed wheels by hand. The original power cord and internal electrics were left untouched, because they didn't need touching — we plugged it in, tested it properly, and the speed dial runs cleanly through its full range.
The outer panels have been repainted in pink, so what left the factory in one colour now leaves us in two — a deliberate, close-fitting bichrome finish, not a full restoration disguise. There are a few minor paint imperfections and honest signs of wear, shown in the photographs.
Included is the original mixing bowl — heavy white glass, made in Belgium, the genuine Kenwood bowl fitted to the A701A from new — along with three original attachments.
Price: $310 (Available)
Pick-up preferred, Onehunga, Auckland. We'd rather you came, saw it running, tested the speed dial yourself, and left happy — than have it arrive in a box and hope for the best.
